WP FeedBurner v2.1 Beta

The Beta Testing is closed. But you can check out the final version.

I’m in the final stages of developing the newest version of the FeedBurner plugin, and need a few people to test it out before I release it. If you’re interested in beta testing the plugin, leave a comment.

It’s a much more simple approach to the whole process, one that I’m not quite sure why I didn’t think of earlier. The benefit is that it now has nothing to do with .htaccess, so it should work on Windows boxes, and with people who are using the default url structure.

So let me know if you’re interested.

  16. @Jason You have to get a Gravatar and use that email address when commenting.

Steve, could you please fill me in on what exactly this does? I wanted to install it but I wasn’t sure if it just redirected feeds or actually installed feedburner in Wordpess.

Rosano: It simply redirects the feed traffic from your main posts feed and optionally your main comments feed (other than FeedBurner itself) to your FeedBurner feeds instead of the WordPress versions. The plugin only handles redirection, it does not create additional feeds in WordPress, nor does it create anything with FeedBurner.

  18. I’d love to help out. If you need extra bodies, please let me know.

    Thanks.

  19. I’m down. I use WP-FeedBurner on a few sites.

  25. i want to be a tester ;) !! Thanks!

  26. Okay, I want to try it out.

  27. Hello, I’d like to try this new version. Thank you !

  28. What is different in this version?

  29. It doesn’t use the .htaccess file to redirect your users. This means two things for bloggers: 1 – servers running on windows can use the plugin 2 – it’s compatible with the latest wordpress 2.0.4

  30. I want to try it out. Thank you!

  31. Hook me up Steve :)

  32. I want to take a test of FeedBurner PI. Keep me in touch :)

  33. Count me in…thanks.

  35. I’d love to beta test- if you’re still looking for testers.

  36. Since version 2.0 never worked for me (I only recieved 404 errors for the “randomly generated” feedburner url) I am very, very interested.

  37. I’d love to try this, thanks.

  38. I’d like to try it. I’m very interested if the offer is still open.

    Thanks!

  39. I’d like to try it out if you’re still looking for testers…

  40. Would love to try it out

  41. I would like to try it too! :-)

  42. I would be glad to beta test your new plugin. Will become support for an comment-feed-burner option?

    Birger :)

  43. I would be very happy to test your new beta version. I am using the current version and for the last 2 weeks my feed has not been updating properly. It was previously working fine and I have no idea why it isn’t now. I have to deactivate and reactivate the feed in order for it to update.

  44. Hello, I do not think this is the best place to ask it, but the other post/comment thread is very old and has not been updated since las year. The fact is that I installed the plugin, did not succeed in making permalinks work and then tried to backout everything. Problem is, now I cannot deactivate this plugin. I sure used the procedure recommended in the PDF that comes with it, but it still does not work. Now my readers cannot subscribe directly to my blog! Help!

  45. ditto on what Christoph said. I’d love to test as I can’t use the current version.

  46. I’m using the current version and It’s really cool! It would be good for me to test this beta

  47. I’m getting ready to upgrade to WordPress 2.0.4 and would like to test your new FeedBurner plugin V2.1 Beta. Thanks.

  48. I am VERY interrested, I have a windows box, so I NEED this plugin, I’ve just contacted you reagarding this issue, please keep me updated

    thanks

  49. I want to give a try too. Thanks.

  50. Oh man, you rule! Can I please…???

  51. I’m always up for trying to break stuff :)

    Can I can I?

  52. I’ll happily give this a try.

  53. I’d like to give a try! Thanks!

  54. Hey Steve!

I have a technical background, programming etc but I am new to Blogs and WordPress.

I read a bit about you and like your work style. And Matt Shobe at FeedBurner Support says good things about you and your beta script. I almost never deal with beta code but if it is OK with you, sure, I will give it a try.

  56. Hi there. Since I´m using WP on a Windowsserver I don´t have the opportunity to use the permalinks-structure nor do I have a functional .htaccess. Will the plugin work for me anyway? d.

  57. great. thanks

  58. Hi there… I’m stuck with a server that uses Microsoft IIS, and so we have index.php in the WordPress URLs… thus would like to try out your new version!

  59. Steve:

From a fellow South Bender-and double domer at that-I’d like to try your new FeedBurner plugin.

  60. Dear Dieter Petereit: if you are using windows, there is a way of using permanant links normally, if you need more help about it please feel free to contact me at akhater [at] adidap [dot] com

I have also windows and IIS and using permanent links

    Cheers

  61. Steve sent me the beta and it works fine on my win2003, php5, apache 2. Although I don´t have htaccess nor permalinks-structure. As it works on mine I suppose it´s gonna work on yours too.

  62. Steve – I’ve emailed you with comments on 2.1, but something has just struck me regarding the plugin.

One of the things I’d planned to do on my site was offer two FeedBurner feeds – one to full content, and one to the reviews category.

If I access the main feed using the plugin, I am correctly redirected to FeedBurner. If I access the category feed, I get the Wordpress version.

I realise this is probably out of scope for version 2.1, but – assuming your new method supports it – is multiple redirected feeds (in a similar way to the comment feed support in 2.1) something you could support in the future?

And how about getting the Wordpress guys to cook this into a future version too – I’m sure it’s something the vast majority of people will use.

    Cheers!

  63. I’d love to give it a spin, if you are still looking for testers!

  64. I would love to give it a try if you are still looking.

  65. Are you still sending out betas? I would love to get going with it.

I am a programmer with a new blog.

  66. Great, I’m interested in try it too..

    Thanks for this great plugin!

  67. interesting for test this plugin, i’m test current downloadable version and not work with my wordpress 2.0.4

  68. I’m interested in testing the new version.

Question… does the new version automatically update Wordpress’ feed_link functionality to return the feeds.feedburner.com/xxx as the feed for my blog?

    Mike

  69. I’ll have a crack at it! I’ve run into a server that does not support .htaccess files and would really like to try this beta.

  70. thanks to send me download link for try this.

  71. count me in – if you could send it to me that would be great and I will give it a test/feedback on it.

  72. I’d like to test it, please.

    Namaste, Cyn

  73. I’d like to try it Steve.

I’m currently using a different plugin (because it was easier to install than yours), but I don’t like that it kills my WordPress comment feeds, as it redirects those to the main Feedburner page. It doesn’t seem like your plugin does that, so I’m interested in trying your latest and greatest.

  74. I can try it I have over 20 sites I can test on.

  75. I’d be very interested in beta-testing a new version as I’ve had some problems with the older one. Specifically, will I be able to choose which feed is sent to FeedBurner as I’d prefer to forward http://wp-community.org/podcast/feed/ instead of http://wp-community.org/feed/.

Also, I experienced a problem with the plug-in when WordPress is installed in a subdirectory instead of the root. I wonder if either or both of these have been addressed in the new version?

  76. Eh, Steve! (Sorry, couldn’t resist the Homestar Runner reference ;))

I was wondering if you incorporated my changes, or at least the ideas, to the plugin? I made the plugin WordPress 2.1 compatible by changing a function and also made it use 301-redirects.

I’m also interested in beta-testing it as I love stuff breaking on my blog so I can learn how it works when fixing it :).

  77. Please send me the beta along. I haven’t had any luck getting the existing plugin to work (404 error from feedburner), so I’d like to try out the .htaccess-less version to see if that fixes the problem.

  78. I would like to test the beta too. My host doesn’t allow modifications to .htaccess, so I have to use default permalink configuration. A FeedBurner plugin that has nothing to do with .htaccess should come in handy.
