WP Tiger Administration v3.0

A complete redesign has pushed WordPress Tiger Admin into version 3. It boasts a more streamlined design, better plugin compatibility, and general all-around goodness.

Tiger Admin Version 3

Stop on by the plugin page to grab your copy. I’m very happy with the changes that were made. It’s taking on much more of my style, while leaving in a little OS X feel to it.

If you’re wondering, I’m not planning on continuing with the old design. It’s hard enough keeping up with the changing markup and popular plugins with one design, let alone with two. Although I won’t be updating them, I have posted links to the older versions on the plugin page in the version history.

I hope you enjoy the new version. Let me know if you find any weirdness.

Also, if you’re so inclined, you can digg this post to help spread the word.

  1. Steve, love the subtle redesign.

Also, good to see you’ve “shipped” Version 3 of the Tiger Admin out the door. It really is an outstanding upgrade from the previous version, so much so that I seriously think it should be part of future builds of Wordpress.

  2. Waw! This new version is beautiful and is fully compatible with Safari. Thanks!

  3. wow looks awesome man :)

  4. Thanks guys, glad you like it.

  5. Hi,

Great work! Congratulations and thank you for your hard work.

We plan to use in a project Wordpress Mu and I wonder if your nice plug would work with it?

    Thanks again.

  6. I’m not sure if the plugin will work with Mu… if somebody wants to test it out and post the results, it would be appreciated.

  7. Wow, I’m impressed. Thanks for acknowledging your users and for another great tool! Even despite the little quirks v2.0 had with the newest Wordpress, I kept on using it. I’m very pleased that both are in sync again :-D

  8. Wow… looks really awesome! Thanks.

I did find one bug though. The “Delete Post” button is hidden under the “Optional Excerpt” field. Try going to Manage>Posts, and then click edit (for any post). If you scroll down, you should see the “Delete Post” button, but with Tiger Admin running, the button is covered.

  9. Nico: You’re welcome.

Paul: I came across that bug for a bit too, but then it disappeared for me. It’s definitely a rendering bug in Safari, and I think it might be caused by some Safari addon. Do you have Saft or PithHelmet or anything like that installed?

  10. Steve, it’s gorgeous. I’m using it in Firefox 2.0 (PC) and it works beautifully. Do you have an Amazon.com wishlist by chance?

  11. Chris: Thanks very much. I don’t really have an updated wishlist, but there is a donation link on the plugin page if you feel so inclined. I’d very much appreciate it.

  12. The new design is beautiful, and it fixed the few little layout quirks from the previous version. Thanks so much fr this!

  13. Why are you so cool? It’s just not fair. When can we expect these talents put to use on the front-end again?

  14. I must express my little disappointment. In my opinion colors are awful. Violet with green are not in harmony. But still this is useful plugin. Thanks.

  15. Your the man Steve, hands down. raises beer Here’s to you and all your hard work! Thanks man.

  16. is this plugin compatible with windows? I have installed as you indicate but it doesn’t change me the appearance of wordpress admin. My platform is windows xp, wordpress 2.0.4, firefox and Internet Explorer 7

  17. it excuses I revised again and if it works me with firefox but I didn’t seize with internet explorer 7

  18. First off, nice work as usual.

Out of curiosity, now that you’ve switched to Mephisto, do you plan on continuing work on the Tiger Admin? This is more a question that I feel others might like to know the answer to, since I myself am planning on switching to Mephisto.

Also, any plans for a Mephisto port? I haven’t looked much at the admin panel there (though I think it’s nicer than Wordpress’s anyway), so not sure about the plausibility of that.

  19. Good job! realy Thanks!

  20. What a wonderful plugin. Thank you!

  21. Hello Steve and thank you for the upgrade.

I uploaded it immediately but I am doing something wrong here, don’t know what it is. In the plugin list WP-tiger-style shows the revised number 3.0 but when I switch over to, for instance, the dashboard, it shows on the bottom the old 2.01 version number as well as the “old” style. In other words, it’s not picking up the changes but it stays with the old stylesheet. To be extra sure I didn’t stuff up things in the process of uploading I repeated everything but no difference. I am stuck with 2.01. Weird.

    Any ideas?

  22. Sorry, I have been talking to soon… :)

I was browsing the site with my own build of FF 3.0a1 that was the culprit.

Switching back to FireFox 2.0 was the fix I needed, it looks perfect now.

    Thank you very much again!

  23. WOW!

I’d like to express my gratitude and say what a truely wonderful creation. I came across v2 a while ago and it was only yesterday I came looking to see if there’d been an upgrade. Seems I was a day early.

This has been so worth the wait from my finding you were working on an update til now.

Your great work for the Wordpress Community is greatly appreciated.

  24. Nice work on the new version! I had the priveledge of beta testing this plugin last week and was pleasantly surprised that I ran into no issues. Once again, great work.

  25. Simply Amazing.

  26. Excellent work Steve… looks fantastic.

  27. Everyone: Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoy the plugin.

Pantuflas: IE (7 or otherwise) doesn’t follow the more advanced CSS2 methods, so it get’s left out of the party.

Paul: Yes, even though I’m on Mephisto now, I still plan to continue work on this plugin. And there’s no need for a Mephisto port, Justin did a find job on the Mephisto admin already.

  28. Wow! Very nicely done. Looks better than some of the preliminary Shuttle shots I’ve seen.

  29. Congrats on the new design of WP-Tiger. You’ve done well. I absolutely love the new version.

  30. Looks great Steve, big improvement on V2 and fixes a lot of little bugs that were annoying me.

Only problem for me is on Firefox 2.0 on Windows XP, when I’m writing a post, on the Categories widget down the side, the Add button is on a seperate line to the text field, which then squishes the text. It does this on any width.

  31. The admin is so much easer to work with thie plugin. Thanks Steve

  32. Wow steve, this is great. Thanks.

  33. I found a bug. If you save a post and go back to edit it, then click on the ‘preview’ link, it jumps down but the ‘edit’ link to go back to the top is off the screen. You have to scroll up to get to it. Same if you go back up, then the ‘preview’ link is off the screen.

  34. Nice redesign, I like it. Only the ‘Tiger’ doesn’t seem to fit anymore.

  35. Wonderful plugin Steve!!! Is there any way to make it work with WorpressMU? I’ve uploaded it to the muplugins folder but there are no changes in the admin site. If I upload it to the plugins folder and activate it, nothing happens. It would be great make it work with WPMU. Note: I’m using WordpressMU 1.0 and FF 2.0 Thanks!

  36. “Do you have Saft or PithHelmet or anything like that installed?”

I don’t have those two specifically, but I do have several things installed to enhance Safari. I tried removing them all, but it didn’t fix it. I’m running Safari 2.0.4. Has anyone else had this problem?

  37. Wow, this upgrade is sweet. Now is it weird to like the administration page layout and design than my actual webblog…lol.

  38. It looks great. I’m sure it feels so too!

  39. I had stopped using your admin theme because of some quirks in WP 2.0.1, so I had gotten used to SpotMilk 1.7.2. But now I see that the quirks are gone. Yeah!

Even so, I wish your admin theme spelled out one’s WP version explicitly, instead of putting “Documentation — Support Forums 2.0.4” etc. on the bottom of the screen. I know now that I have WP 2.0.4 but at first it took me a while to figure that out. It reads as though I have ver. 2.0.4 of the Support Forums, see?

By contrast, SpotMilk puts this at the bottom of the screen: “Powered by WordPress 2.0.4 & SpotMilk 1.7.2.” Now that’s clear!

Anyway, thanks for sending out the e-mail notifying your users of the new version. Much appreciated.

  40. I have been using your tiger admin for a while and have always loved it, and I think this redesign is great. I also just wanted to mention that your site is probably the best looking one I’ve seen. Keep up the great work!

  41. How hard would it be to turn this into a right to left design?

  42. Great update, very sleek and functional looking…! It would be cool if there was like an additional (more Mac-like) icon set as a replacement maybe…!? ;)

Anyway, I like it and have recommended it to others already…!

  43. Wow man! this is really cool! Please, keep making plugins like this and feedburner one!

  44. [quote] Lopo Lencastre de Almeida December 13th, 2006 Hi,

Great work! Congratulations and thank you for your hard work.

We plan to use in a project Wordpress Mu and I wonder if your nice plug would work with it?

    Thanks again.

The plugin doesn’t work for me in WPMU, however, I replaced the wp-admin.css file in the admin folder, after renaming the file from tiger to wp-admin.css of course.

I’m still working out a couple of quirks for IE 6 which I hope to get my way through. Everything is centered in IE with nothing on the left hand column but displays perfectly in FF 2.0x (Just like everything else I do in WP)

Great job on the plug in. Even as a stand-alone CSS in the way I am currently using it for MU, this will make for a more unique user experience once I launch mu MU site to go live.

  45. Hey man, good job, but don’t work with my portuguese version. but’s ok.

  46. Like I said earlier, I love this plugin but I have found a bug when it show the Options page for WP-Cache plugin. The enable / disable and time to live bits are off the screen to the right and you can’t use them when Tiger Style is installed.

  47. Hi,

Thanks a ton for this visual admincp plug-in. Love it!

But Steve you might want to test your plugin out with wp-cache. Look at its page in WP… Completely screwed up… :(

Might also want to test it out with this plugin: http://www.urbangiraffe.com/plugins/audit-trail

It works fine but its little icon is screwed up on the post screens.. Will post screen shots if u need them when I get home if you cant see what I am talking about…

Hoping you can fix the issue using CSS

    Thanks a lot,

    Will

  48. This is pretty sweet, I must say. It fixed the rendering issues with the UTW tags field, which was the major thing holding me back from using it.

If you could somehow add the functionality of “admin drop menus” to this, it would be perfect.

  49. Well done Steve!

  50. I was surprised to see this Steve; I thought Tiger Admin was being shelved in favour of Shuttle, but it now looks like Shuttle is the one being shelved (?). Feedback: With the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin (Options, Tags) Tiger Admin hides the submit button to confirm changes.

  51. Nice job! But use the Admin Drop Down Menu and browse with opera will show some bugs~

  52. Great job, thanks! Though i noticed one small glitch, the lower “Delete all” button of Akismet’s Spam page is partly hidden by the fixed footer. It doesn’t really matter, as there’s also the upper button, but I thought you might wanna know.

  53. This is definately more beautiful than the default theme. But I think it shouldn’t be called “Tiger admin”, since the new visual style is more Windows-XP-like than Mac-like. All icons and stuff have nothing in common with the beautiful Aqua UI anymore.

    Thanks, though..

  54. Oh, and the button for adding a custom field is missing.

  55. Hello Steve,

Just a quick note to say thanks for making this readily available.

To be honest I’m not fussed either way if it’s implemented. However, when it comes to creating a blog for a possible client it will be much more aesthetically pleasing to present the admin with your adjustments.

    Good job mate.

  56. I just noticed a little problem with the Sidebar widgets setup: The widgets seem to be overlapping each other so that some appear hidden. You can re-arrange them, but as soon as you save, they are messed up again!? Also the button for individual Widget setting is gone then…

When I deactivate your plugin everything’s fine again…

Take a look here to see what I mean: http://www.nitewing.de/gfx/before.jpg

  57. Wonderful, Steve. 100x better than the previous!

  58. It Rocks! A wonderful theme steve. Thanks!

  59. I’m not able to make this plugin work. Have uploaded zip file to my server, it’s well decompressed in a “wp-admin-tiger” folder, have activated the plugin but it doesn’t show anything different, i’m still getting wordpress’ default admin panel.

I’m using Wordpress 2.0.5, previously with SpotMilk 1.7.1, not actually of course :D

  60. Hi, I updated tiger administration from v2.0 to v3.0 but the design haven’t changend. I still get the design from version 2.0. At first I have deactivated the version 2.0 and deleted the files from server and then I uploaded and activated the new version. But nothing changed. Can you help? I use WP 2.0.5 and Firefox 2.0.

  61. really really beautiful! what about a matching loginscreen? :) (a option to easily change the fontsize would be nice)

  62. That looks awsome, btw: whuck gravatar pi you’re using?

  63. That looks awsome, btw: which gravatar pi you’re using?

  64. I used your redesign back when it was first released and quickly stopped using it due to design inconsistencies… but I have to tell you, v3.0 has become relegated to DEFAULT on ALL blogs I maintain.

    GREAT work!

  65. wow, this is a huge improvement over the old version. everything does seem faster.

  66. Thank you – this theme is absolutely beautiful.

  67. Thank you for all the hard work you put into this project. I’m not sure what Wordpress is waiting for…. they need to adopt this, Pronto! Thanks again!

    EJ

  68. Every time I load a new page in the admin panel, the old theme flashes on screen.

  69. Applause to the artist! Awesome!

  70. Awesome looking design! Love it.

  71. Thanks for this beautiful plug-in! It just keeps getting better and better!

  72. Great job man… love it …thx!!!

  73. I installed it too, and it’s really nice. You did a great job. It would be wonderful if comes by default in WP 3.0 ;)

  74. Great job on this!

  75. What’s compatibility with WordPressMU like?

  76. Wow, I’m in love :) This really does make my admin area feel more ‘polished and professional’, and I’m definitely recommending this to my friends. Thanks for all the hard work on this plugin!

  77. I love this!

One problem I’ve run across, though. In WordPress 2.1, particularly in the plug-ins list, the fonts are back to being huge. (Does Matt just like half-inch high text or something?)

  78. Hello!

Merry Christmas and the best to you and your family.

Dumm question maybe what happen to html button so you can edit html post?

    Pierre

  79. Thx for your greart Work! This is the one and only Admin Interface for Wordpress :-)

  80. Amazingly beautiful. The black is cool to the eyes. Congratulations.

  81. Please make something like this for Drupal too ! I love it.

  82. This is a great job !!!

A minor change I did for Greek language, maybe other had this problem …

    user_info a {

... right:200px; (changed to larger value, as text overlapped)

  83. You are the man! Version 3.0 is the best thing ever!

  84. Awesome work! Already was very pleased with the previous version, but this is just neat! Keep it up!

  85. I LOVE the wp-tiger admin interface. Very clean and usable.

    good work :)

  86. You’re newest fan, this rocks.

Small note- the inline image media upload form is not tiger style; it has the standard default layout. See screenshot

  87. great job as mentioned before!!

one thing tho (as mentioned before as well:): the button for adding a custom field & the other two dbx-boxes is missing.

since i don’t want to mess with the css i would like to know if there are any solutions for this yet?

    cheers,

    m

  88. turned out that this line seems to be the troublemaker:

    advancedstuff .submit {display:none;}

i don´t know its task but after deletion it seems that everything is still working fine …

    cheers,

    m

  89. Very good joob! great plugin for wordpress…. Regards,

  90. Hey, nice work, but I would like to see this on IE 7 as well. Maybe some mobile edition? (Yeah, i know, I’m pushing it)

Thanks again for your devotion to open source.

  91. yes yes yes! thank you!

  92. I might be crazy, but I downloaded and installed the plugin and it is using the V2.01 layout instead of the new one? I am 100% sure I downloaded V3.0. And ideas?

  93. I don’t know if this is a bug or what, but at the bottom of every page in admin console, there is a lonely ” I’ve checked the source and nothing… so where is this thing coming from? :P

    http://www.savegame.no/upload/upload/wpterror.jpg

  94. Beautiful update!

Probably a stupid question, but how much work would be involved in producing a simplified version that did work with IE6/7?

Tons? Or is it just not practical. I’d love a them that I knew my clients could use :)

  95. As amazing as your site is, you’ve created yet another masterpiece for WordPress. I loved the original design for v2.0 but I love this one even more, clean and sophisticated.

  96. I Just tried to install the Tiger Admin. I just activated the plugin, but nothing happens, it’s just the old blue style of the admin pages. The files are in the folders as described and the plugin is shown as active. Is there any further trick? Anything I can check?

  97. fwiw, the newest version of akismet displays spam as a ul, not an ol
