Cleaning House

I’ve talked about moving to Mephisto for quite some time, and I’ve finally managed to finish. I took the time to refresh my design a little, and clean a little house while I’m at it. Some things may not be in their final form, or even in the right place, but for now, here’s the new digs. I hope you enjoy.

  1. Wow man, nice redesign! I really like what you have done! I’m jumping the WP ship too, but not to Mephisto. I’m going (to attempt) to built my own custom blogging solution on Django. Congrats again on the redesign!

  2. Thanks Michael, glad you like it. Good luck building your own CMS. It’s quite a task, so have fun with it.

  3. hey there site looks awesome. I been hearing about Mephisto quite a bit now. how is it better than Wordpress and does it have all the features of wordpress ???

  4. Scribez: It’s different than WordPress, that’s for sure. It’s much lighter, and simpler in some areas. I wouldn’t say it’s quite as full-featured as WordPress, but it’s also only in version 0.73. It seems to me to just make a little more sense from a users perspective, and it’s also built in Rails, my new web development framework of choice.

If you want to see the administrative interface in action, they have a demo site and demo administration area (login with admin/admin) available.

  5. Hey there thanks for the quick reply. I will explore it more :)

  6. Steve, very well done on the redesign – I’ve always looked to your site for a bit of inspiration every now and then, and now I have even more reason to!

Like Michael and you, I have wanted to jump the WordPress ship for quite a while, and relaunched with my own CMS on Django just a day or two ago. To anyone who is considering moving either away from WordPress or building a site in Django, I would highly reccomend you go for it. Django is amazing, and allows so much more freedom than WordPress.

Anyway, well done again Steve, you deserve it!

  7. I am still loving WordPress for my site but I’ve started looking into Ruby this week and will be checking out Rails next week.

I enjoy the improvements, looks great. The changes remind me of a quote from a certain designer who I respect. “Good designers redesign, Great designers realign”, it is certainly a great realign. (Also the instant comment preview is SO cool!)

  8. Nice subtle redesign, glad to see you making the move over to rails. I am currently developing my own blogging engine based on rails and it’s a exciting process and I’m learning a whole lot about rails.

Finally, good job and congrats on the redesign!

  9. Nice work. You should have given SimpleLog a chance though. ;) I plan on checking out Mephisto some time for possible use on different projects, but SimpleLog is definitely about to be an extremely strong candidate for a clean and friendly blogging tool on Rails.

  10. Like the design improvements (also like the fact that your comments support Textile now), but why’d you dump WordPress? Rails is great for efficient development when building your own apps, but if there’s already a full-blown app in PHP why not stick with it?
